What is Cashmere?

 

Cashmere, the fiber of kings, has long been one of the most prized and luxurious fibers to be found.  Cashmere is known for its amazing warmth, light-weight insulation without the bulk and luxurious softness.  This valuable material comes from the soft undercoat of the Kashmir goat, and serves as their protection from the cold mountain winter temperatures and high altitude.  The down is removed by hand with a coarse comb duing molting season in the spring, when the animals naturally shed their winter coat.  Appropriate for all climates, a high moisture content allows insulation properties to change with the relative humidity in the air.  In essence, cashmere is the perfect material for any season. Extremely warm and plush, it is adored by adults and babies alike.
